Denny wrote, arranged, and played guitar on
“Sanibel”, the single (and only outside cut) off of, “Looking
Forward”, the recent Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young reunion album.
The song is also featured on his solo CD, “Bright As Babylon”, an
eclectic collection of uplifting songs, ranging from country- rock
to reggae.
He’s written, performed, and produced songs for T.V.
and film soundtracks, including “Fast Times At Ridgemont High”,
“Electric Horseman”, and “Stoker’s Ace”.
“A Woodmont Christmas” Vols. I & II, features live
performances of two original Christmas songs, “It’s About The Lord”
and “Peace”, accompanied by The Woodmont Choir and members of the
Nashville Symphony.
Denny is a “regular” on the Nashville
“writers-in-the-round” circuit.
After years of giving private lessons and regional
workshops, Denny has condensed the best of his teaching techniques
into a 2-disc, 3 hr. DVD, “LICK*TIONARY - The Songwriters Guide To
Great Guitar!” - a street smart, power packed video designed to help
songwriters (or people who just love to play their favorite classic
songs) build a “Technique Toolbox” of Hot Licks, Cool Tricks, &
Great Grooves. He has given live “LICK*TIONARY” workshops for
Nashville Songwriters Assoc. Int’l, Tennessee Songwriters Assoc.,
and The National Guitar Workshop.
Private lessons and one-on-one workshops are
available in the Nashville area.
Denny’s been an active NSAI (Nashville Songwriter’s
Assoc. Int’l) Pro member and long time contributor to their Song
Evaluation Program. His wit and insights make him a favorite on
group critique nights. He’s given numerous regional workshops on
songwriting and guitar playing.
As a member of the NSAI Legislative team, he’s made
several trips to Washington D.C. to lobby for songwriter’s rights,
help establish “the songwriter’s caucus” in both the House and
Senate, and campaigned for anti-piracy laws and the recently passed
bill creating a capital gains tax for songwriters.
In his book, “20/20 SongSight - The Common Sense of
Songwriting”, (available i fall ‘06), Denny has combined the
practical lessons he’s learned as a writer and publisher with his
years of experience mentoring and critiquing new writers to create a
collection of fun, no-nonsense essays, guidelines, and checklists
that can help you hone your songwriting skills.

Denny has played guitar, bass, mandolin, and sang
background vocals on hundreds of sessions for artists and writers,
including Rick Nelson, CSNY, Bread, The Monkees, Quincy Jones,
Leiber & Stoller, Buddy Jewell, and the legendary L.A. session team,
“The Wrecking Crew”.
Denny has written scripts for “Mr. Belvedere” and other sitcoms,
as well as several Movies-of-the Week.
He’s currently working on a musical-fantasy/adventure and a WWII
biographical screenplay.
A Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in the Japanese art of Aikido,
Denny’s taught at Cal State Northridge and Belmont University. He’s
developed a series of “Ki” (energy) workshops for athletes,
musicians, and vocalists. |
