Songwriter / Recording Artist / Guitarist / Guitar Instruction / Songwriting Workshops & Services

SONGWRITER / RECORDING ARTIST / CD’s

Denny Sarokin had his first Top Ten hit as lead singer/guitarist/songwriter for Every Mother’s Son (“Come On Down To My Boat Baby”). As bandleader for Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band, he wrote and arranged seven songs for Rick’s critically acclaimed “Windfall” and “Intakes” albums, as well as contributing four songs (including the title track) for "Legacy" - the Rick Nelson CD box collection. Another anthology, “Easy To Be Free - The Songs of Rick Nelson” features three of his songs, including his solo rendition of “One Night Stand”.

Denny wrote, arranged, and played guitar on “Sanibel”, the single (and only outside cut) off of, “Looking Forward”, the recent Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young reunion album. The song is also featured on his solo CD, “Bright As Babylon”, an eclectic collection of uplifting songs, ranging from country- rock to reggae.

He’s written, performed, and produced songs for T.V. and film soundtracks, including “Fast Times At Ridgemont High”, “Electric Horseman”, and “Stoker’s Ace”.

“A Woodmont Christmas” Vols. I & II, features live performances of two original Christmas songs, “It’s About The Lord” and “Peace”, accompanied by The Woodmont Choir and members of the Nashville Symphony.

Denny is a “regular” on the Nashville “writers-in-the-round” circuit.

GUITAR INSTRUCTION / “LICKTIONARY” DVD / GUITAR WORKSHOPS

After years of giving private lessons and regional workshops, Denny has condensed the best of his teaching techniques into a 2-disc, 3 hr. DVD, “LICK*TIONARY - The Songwriters Guide To Great Guitar!” - a street smart, power packed video designed to help songwriters (or people who just love to play their favorite classic songs) build a “Technique Toolbox” of Hot Licks, Cool Tricks, & Great Grooves. He has given live “LICK*TIONARY” workshops for Nashville Songwriters Assoc. Int’l, Tennessee Songwriters Assoc., and The National Guitar Workshop.

Private lessons and one-on-one workshops are available in the Nashville area.

SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS & SERVICES / “20/20 SongSight”

Denny’s been an active NSAI (Nashville Songwriter’s Assoc. Int’l) Pro member and long time contributor to their Song Evaluation Program. His wit and insights make him a favorite on group critique nights. He’s given numerous regional workshops on songwriting and guitar playing.

As a member of the NSAI Legislative team, he’s made several trips to Washington D.C. to lobby for songwriter’s rights, help establish “the songwriter’s caucus” in both the House and Senate, and campaigned for anti-piracy laws and the recently passed bill creating a capital gains tax for songwriters.

In his book, “20/20 SongSight - The Common Sense of Songwriting”, (available i fall ‘06), Denny has combined the practical lessons he’s learned as a writer and publisher with his years of experience mentoring and critiquing new writers to create a collection of fun, no-nonsense essays, guidelines, and checklists that can help you hone your songwriting skills.

Private song evaluations, group workshops, and demo production services are available at reasonable rates.

SESSION MUSICIAN

Denny has played guitar, bass, mandolin, and sang background vocals on hundreds of sessions for artists and writers, including Rick Nelson, CSNY, Bread, The Monkees, Quincy Jones, Leiber & Stoller, Buddy Jewell, and the legendary L.A. session team, “The Wrecking Crew”.
